Section 8 part 1 of Pyramind's Ableton Live Course taught by Shane Hazleton.
Every vocal is unique. Every song is unique. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to vocal processing. However, some techniques will often be applicable and come up again and again. To that end, we can think about the creation of a lead vocal sound in terms of a set of tools that we can apply more or less in a particular order. This would be your lead vocal chain.
The objective of such a sequence of effects for a lead vocal is to create a realistic (not washed out trippy), front and center, present, even, not harsh or perhaps warm, intelligible, and for lack of a better word - "professional" vocal sound. In this video, we'll show techniques that we've come to adopt ourselves through experimentation and also tactics we've learned through studying with Grammy-winning mix engineers.
