Film Audio - Lesson 1 - Importing AAF Files

Film Audio - Lesson 1 - Importing AAF Files
Before you can get started with any audio post-production project, you'll need to import the relevant files into your DAW. These files will typically come from a video editor and will include some or all of the following:

Movie File (typically a QuickTime movie)
Original Production Dialog
Sound Effects added by the video editor
Music added by the video editor
These files will typically be provided to you as an OMF or AAF file.

OMF/AAF
OMF (Open Media Framework) and AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) are two generic project file types that all post-production software supports. This includes all of the major digital audio workstations (Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, etc.) and professional non-linear video editing applications (Media Composer, Premiere, FCP, etc.) These files are useful because they allow the project to be moved between applications that otherwise can't read the same project files. The OMF is an obsolete format and you won't see it very often.
